AC Milan contact Nottingham Forest to sign £26m Nuno signing who wants to leave

AC Milan have made contact with Nottingham Forest over a deal for a £26m Nuno signing who now wants to leave.

Forest on the up under the helm of Dyche

Ange Postecoglou didn’t last long after replacing Nuno earlier this season, but Sean Dyche has really managed to turn things around, with his side now four points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, after defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out.

The Tricky Trees edged out a 1-0 victory against the bottom-placed side, courtesy of an Igor Jesus goal with just under 20 minutes left to play, meaning they finally have some breathing room, and survival is looking increasingly likely.

Dyche praised his side’s mindset in the narrow victory, saying: “They kept going and throwing things at us. I’m pleased with our mentality. You saw the way we dug it out, they threw a lot at us second half and we dealt with it well.”

In fairness, given that Forest qualified for the Europa League last season and spent heavily in the summer, relegation shouldn’t be on the cards, but it would be fair to say some of their recent additions haven’t hit the ground running at the City Ground.

Arnaud Kalimuendo, who arrived from Rennes for £26m, has particularly struggled to make an impact, having failed to score in his opening seven Premier League games, predominantly being utilised as a substitute.

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the striker could be offered an exit route soon, with it being revealed that AC Milan have made contact with Nottingham Forest CEO Lina Souloukou over a potential deal.

Kalimuendo now wants to leave Forest, amid a lack of game time, featuring for just 81 mintues across his seven Premier League appearances this season, and clubs from Italy are lining up to sign him, with AS Roma also being named as potential suitors.

Forest should sanction Kalimuendo departure this January

In truth, it is probably best for all parties if the centre-forward moves on this summer, given that he clearly hasn’t managed to impress all three of Forest’s managers this season, given the lack of game time in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has impressed at times in the Europa League, most recently scoring in the 3-0 victory over Malmo FF, but he was unable to make an impact as a substitute against Brighton in the following match, failing to register a single shot.

In fairness, it is difficult to have a major impact coming on late in the game, and Kalimuendo may need to be given a Premier League start if he is to prove himself.

However, with Jesus recently scoring his first Premier League goal, and Chris Wood still to return from injury, opportunities are likely to be even more limited going forward, and it may be worth Forest cutting their losses in the January transfer window.

Mac Allister upgrade: Liverpool set to launch bid for £140m superstar

Liverpool now look a million miles off the likes of Arsenal, sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League.

Only last season, Arne Slot’s runaway Reds finished ten points clear of Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, having won a mammoth 25 clashes along the way to lifting the title.

Now, with an abysmal six defeats next to their name from 12 Premier League clashes, and 20 goals already leaked, the out-of-sorts giants are already 11 points behind the North Londoners, who swept Tottenham Hotspur aside 4-1, on the same weekend Liverpool crashed out to a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Thankfully, despite Liverpool suffering their worst start to a season since 2014, and Gary Neville chipping in by labelling the current state of affairs as “unacceptable”, the January transfer window opens soon, which could see the Reds spend wildly again to try and get their atrocious campaign back on track.

Liverpool preparing to spend big again

Just one look at the list above gives you a flavour as to how much Liverpool splashed out in the summer, with Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike all joining the building for an eye-watering combined total of £294m.

While these deals haven’t exactly gone to plan so far, that doesn’t mean more lavish spending won’t do the trick in an attempt to turn out Liverpool’s depressing fortunes, with sources from Spain now alleging that Slot and Co could be willing to drop an earth-shuddering £177m on the services of Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise.

Liverpool have also been tipped to move for the likes of Juventus attacker Kenan Yildiz and Premier League man of the moment Antoine Semenyo to freshen up their attacking ranks, but a new emerging report from Spain also suggests that their central midfield spots might well be given a major facelift, if they can pick up Paris St Germain ace Joao Neves.

Indeed, the report states that the faltering titans have an ‘intense interest’ in adding Neves to their squad after a breakout season in Ligue 1, with a battle for his services perhaps defining a busy January window to come.

It’s further revealed that Liverpool are preparing an offer close to £140m in an effort to persuade Luis Enrique’s men to part ways.

How Neves is a big upgrade on Mac Allister

Liverpool could win themselves a major upgrade on a declining Alexis Mac Allister if the ex-Benfica midfielder does choose to leave the comforts of France behind for a shot in the Premier League.

Unfortunately, the Argentine has looked seriously off the pace this season during Liverpool’s well-publicised struggles.

It’s been a significant fall from grace for the World Cup winner, who managed to bag five goals and collect five assists last season in league action to help Slot pick up the Premier League title in a crazy first campaign at the helm.

Now, however, the waning 26-year-old has an unconvincing zero goals and two assists from 11 league outings this season, leading to one analyst labelling him as a “huge disappointment”, with his once-feared ability to dictate play now nowhere to be found.

While the former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder continues to decline, Neves has followed up his outrageous tally of three goals and eight assists from last season with five goals already this campaign, as the 21-year-old continues to live up to his billing as being “one of the best midfielders in the world” by European football content creator, Alex Brice.

On top of being a clinical and classy finisher of chances, Neves also blows his competition out of the water in terms of his pass accuracy with an unerring 94% average in tact, alongside also offering up more ball recoveries at 3.1 per Ligue 1 game, which should stand him in good stead to be an energetic partner to Ryan Gravenberch.

A major plus to his game, though, is his ability to fire home chances – as seen in his unbelievable hat-trick earlier this season – with Mac Allister also well-known to fire home a memorable strike or two during his Liverpool peak.

But, it’s his overall package that makes him such a “complete” talent, as he has been labelled by his ex-trainer in Luis Castro, who even said that number 87 can play in “any championship in the world” and “shine”, with Liverpool having to put their money where their mouth is to prove him right.

Of course, between now and January coming into view, Mac Allister might well pick up form again, as could his entire team, as they potentially climb far beyond their current mid-table slump.

But, with Curtis Jones the only real other figure Slot can fall back on in the defensive midfield ranks – away from the South American and Gravenberch – dropping £140m on Neves could be a fantastic, if costly, investment to make, as the big spenders hope the Portuguese superstar can enter the starting XI and push his new team back into the top positions in the tough division.

Jack Flaherty Returns to Detroit Tigers on New Two-Year Deal

Just over six months after the Detroit Tigers traded starting pitcher Jack Flaherty to the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline, Flaherty is returning to Detroit on a new two-year deal.

Per Jeff Passan of ESPN, Flaherty and the Tigers have reached an agreement on a two-year, $35 million contract which includes an opt-out after the first season. Flaherty will earn $25 million during the 2025 season, and is guaranteed $10 million for the 2026 season. If he makes at least 15 starts in 2025, his guarantees will jump up to $20 million in 2026.

Flaherty originally joined the Tigers ahead of last season, when he signed on a one-year, $14 million deal. Flaherty went 7-5 with a 2.94 ERA across 18 starts for Detroit before they traded him to the Dodgers in late July.

As the Dodgers dealt with numerous injuries to their starting rotation, Flaherty emerged as the team's Day 1 starter for the National League Championship Series and World Series. Though inconsistent at points during his brief run with the Dodgers, he pitched a seven-inning shutout in his first start of the NLCS and also helped the Dodgers to wins in Games 1 and 5 of the World Series, bringing Flaherty his first championship.

The 29-year-old joins Detroit before his second spring training with the team later this month and for his ninth MLB season.

Yankees Release Statement Banning Fans Who Interfered With Mookie Betts in Game 4

The New York Yankees fans who interfered with Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts during Game 4 of the World Series have officially been banned from Yankee Stadium.

On Wednesday, the Yankees issued a statement announcing the two fans, identified as Austin Capobianco and John Peter, will not be allowed to attend Game 5 despite having tickets.

The incident came as Betts jumped at the wall in foul territory to catch a popup hit by Gleyber Torres. Capobianco grabbed Betts's glove and pried the ball out with both hands. Peter also grabbed Betts. The All-Star outfielder was furious and Torres was immediately ruled out by right-field umpire Mark Carlson.

The Yankees' statement reads, in part:

"Last night two fans were ejected form Yankee Stadium for egregious and unacceptable physical contact with Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts. The safety and security of players, fans and Stadium staff is the foundational element of every even held at Yankee Stadium, and it cannot be compromised.

"Tonight marks the final home game of (the) year, and we want every ounce of our fans' passion on display. Yankee Stadium is known for its energy and intensity, however the exuberance of supporting one's team can never cross the line into intentionally putting players at physical risk.

"The Yankees and Major League Baseball maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward the type of behavior displayed last night. These fans will not be permitted to attend tonight's game in any capacity."

Capobianco is a season ticket holder and was planning to attend Game 5. He and Peter now will not be allowed to attend. There is no word if they are banned for future games after the World Series.

Reddy credits Cummins and Morkel for bowling improvement

Allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy struck important blows at Lord’s after working on his consistency with the red ball

Sidharth Monga10-Jul-20251:18

Reddy: Knew I had to improve bowling after Australia tour

Nitish Kumar Reddy has credited work with his Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins and India bowling coach Morne Morkel for his improvement with the ball after India felt like they were a seamer light in Australia. Reddy was the allrounder in on that tour, where he did impress with the bat and scored a century at MCG, but wasn’t used nearly enough as a bowler.More than the two wickets that he took on day one at Lord’s, it was the fact that the captain Shubman Gill trusted him enough to introduce him as early as the 14th over and then bowl him for 14 overs – as many as Mohammed Siraj – that should be good news for Reddy and India.Being slower in pace, he naturally swung the ball more than other seamers on average, but surprisingly, he also extracted the most average seam, slightly more than Jasprit Bumrah. He also attacked the stumps most often.Related

Root holds the fort with 99* as India put brakes on Bazball

For Crawley and Pope, the struggle gets real

“After the Australia tour I felt like I have to improve my bowling and my consistency,” Reddy said. “That’s what I looked [at]. And yeah, Pat is my captain [in the IPL], and he’s been brilliant in Australia, and I have asked him [for] some tips and he has been telling me how things would have been done in Australia, how can I go through in Australia. And that’s a great experience for me, sharing with Pat Cummins.”Coming to this tour, I would say, working with Morne Morkel has been great for me. He’s working with me for a couple of weeks, and we are seeing good progress in my bowling, and I’m really enjoying working with him.”Reddy played the first-class games and one intra-squad game before the Test matches. “We’ve been working on my consistency a lot since I get a bit of swing both ways,” Reddy said. “I just want to be consistent on the areas. So we are working on that. I’ve been working hard on my bowling for one year or two years. I’ve been doing a lot of hard work, but later on it is about understanding things and believing in myself. If you believe, that’s when your hard work comes on point. That’s what I’m realising now.”Reddy bowled just five overs during the IPL because he was recovering from a side strain, but he has built up his loads pretty well. “After injury it’s been a bit tough for me to get into my rhythm,” Reddy said. “It had been hurting a bit after the injury as well. An the end of the IPL season, I got my bowling started into the matches and I felt great. I just want to enjoy the movement, want to bowl what my team wants from me, and I guess that’s what I have done exactly, and pretty happy the way I bowled today, and I just want to continue tomorrow.”

Magical Mitchell turns lost cause into a win for Texas Super Kings

MI New York fell three runs short in an MLC 2025 contest of major twists and turns

ESPNcricinfo staff14-Jun-2025If Finn Allen’s record-breaking 51-ball 151 made the opening game of MLC 2025 memorable, the second of the season matched it for excitement, with two teams – whose better-known siblings have waged many battles at the IPL – playing out a thriller that had as many twists and turns as a 40-over contest can possibly have.Chasing 186 for victory against Texas Super Kings, MI New York looked out of the contest, then roared right back, then lost their way, found it again, but then stopped three runs short as Daryl Mitchell, who had triggered the previous turning point in the game, bowled a last over of yorkers and slower deliveries to concede just five to the ninth-wicket pair of Tajinder Singh and Naveen-ul-Haq.It was a special comeback from TSK, as they turned the result their way despite MINY needing 27 from 20 balls with six wickets in hand.Monank Patel made a 33-ball fifty•Sportzpics for MLCThe chase had started direly for MINY with the with the scoreboard reading 32 for 3 after the powerplay. It wasn’t a huge chase, but you wouldn’t want to lose Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran, as well as Agni Chopra, that soon. But that is what happened thanks to Adam Milne and Noor Ahmad. The innings needed rebuilding, so Monank Patel, the No. 3, and Michael Bracewell, possibly MINY’s best bowler earlier, took it upon themselves to do that. They needed to steady the ship first, which they did, only one four – hit by Bracewell – came between Pooran’s dismissal and the end of the seventh over. But then a little impetus was needed, which came as they scored 11, 16, 15, 14 and 17 in the next five overs. And suddenly it was even stevens – 76 needed from 48.Monank had gotten to his half-century, off 33 balls, by then, and Bracewell looked good to join him at the mark, but Milne’s reintroduction provided the next twist in the tale, though it really was Faf du Plessis’ wicket more than anyone else’s. Milne bowled short outside off, Bracewell gave it a thwack, du Plessis leapt and plucked the ball out of the air one-handed at wide mid-off.

If that had a whiff of a turning point, the real one came a few overs later. Kieron Pollard, 38 and replaced as team captain by Pooran, went 4, 6, 4 and 4 against the gentle medium pace of Mitchell to make it 27 needed from 20. Till Mitchell’s sprint to midwicket, pick-up-turn-and-throw-the-stumps-down play sent both Pollard and Monank back off successive deliveries. That was the proper turning point. Only three fours came in the last three overs, two more wickets fell, and Mitchell’s last over, where just one big hit could have finished off the game, had just three runs off the bat, plus a bye and a leg-bye.Devon Conway scored a steady half-century•Sportzpics for MLCEarlier, till the halfway stage of the Super Kings innings, it didn’t look like they would get anywhere near a strong total. Sure, Devon Conway was around, on 36, but he had taken 26 balls to get there. And three wickets had fallen at the other end. That became five by the end of the 12th over, and Conway was still only on 38 from 28.Which is when things started to change. Calvin Savage, the one-time South Africa Under-19 man and now a USA player, joined Conway and showed his skills with the bat. The 13th over began with a four from Savage off Bracewell, who had picked up two of the five wickets to fall at that stage, and Conway struck the fourth six of his innings two balls later. It wasn’t frenetic, but by the end of the 16th, Super Kings had 140 on the board.Sixes seemed easier to come by than fours as Conway and Savage helped themselves to quite a few, and the partnership reached 79 before Conway, who got his half-century off 35 balls, was run-out for a 44-ball 66. Savage got to his fifty before time ran out, too, ending unbeaten on a 34-ball 53. Between them, the two hit nine sixes. Super Kings scored 110 runs in boundaries. MINY scored 114. Both innings had a dot-ball percentage of 33. Almost nothing to separate them but holding your nerve and winning the key moments.

Amorim can save his job by axing Man Utd flop who is this season's Onana

Ruben Amorim has become a man under pressure at Manchester United in recent weeks after yet another dismal few weeks in charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils boss was given the benefit of the doubt during last campaign, after largely working with the players already at his disposal upon taking the reins in November.

However, he was handed the tools to do just that this summer, subsequently spending over £200m on the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha.

Big money, spent on big-name players, but yet still the same result, leading to questions being asked about the boss’s long-term future in the role.

The defeat in the Manchester Derby on Sunday made just one win from the opening four Premier League outings of the 2025/26 campaign – once again sitting just a couple of places above the drop zone.

Their tally of seven goals conceded is the fourth worst in the division, highlighting the need for added work in the defensive third – an area that was massively neglected during the off-season.

However, Amorim did decide to finally part ways with one player, but it’s evident that he wasn’t the only issue currently within that area of the pitch for the Red Devils.

Why Man Utd decided to offload Andre Onana

Goalkeeper Andre Onana is a player who has come under huge fire at United over the last couple of months for his lacklustre performances between the sticks.

Huge excitement was generated around his signature back in the summer of 2023, after the Cameroonian international joined in a £47m transfer from Inter Milan.

He was seen as the ideal replacement for the outgoing David de Gea, but it’s safe to say, two years on from his move to Manchester – the deal has been a disaster.

The 29-year-old has cost the side in key moments, with countless mistakes leading to goals – six of which came in the Premier League last season, subsequently contributing to the lowly top-division finish.

Even in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, he was unable to keep out a routine effort from Brennan Johnson, with such a failure handing the European trophy to the Lilywhites.

Onana’s failures continued into 2025/26, arguably being at fault for both goals in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town – undoubtedly leading to his loan move to Trabzonspor over the last few weeks.

However, despite his temporary departure, there’s another player in the current side that Amorim desperately needs to axe if he is to have any chance of saving his job.

The United player who Amorim needs to axe

In his 47 games in charge of United, Amorim has suffered defeat on 20 occasions, resulting in the former Sporting CP boss achieving a measly 38% win percentage to date.

The recent defeat against Pep Guardiola’s men has raised further questions about his future in the role, especially given his reluctance to move away from his current 3-4-2-1 system.

The 40-year-old stated after the match at the Etihad that the club will have to change the man before he changes his ideas – a statement that has piled further pressure on his shoulders.

Within his back three at the Etihad, the manager utilised Luke Shaw, with the Englishman switching from a wing-back role that he operated in during the early stages of his career.

Injuries have played a massive part in the 30-year-old’s progress, only managing over 30 appearances across all competitions in one of the last five years.

He’s suffered 13 separate injury setbacks during the aforementioned timeframe – subsequently missing nearly 150 games of first-team action in the process.

However, Amorim has put faith in the Englishman to play a huge part in his backline – but his recent displays have highlighted the need for added investment in such an area.

Shaw, who’s been labelled “woeful” by one analyst, has only made 0.2 interceptions per 90 and has been dribbled past 1.2 times per 90 – highlighting his inability to regain possession for the Red Devils.

He’s also won less than one tackle per 90, at a success rate of just 50% – often being an unreliable option – as seen by the club’s measly defensive record.

Injuries in the backline have undoubtedly contributed to his run of games in the side, with Shaw likely to lose his place to the likes of Lisandro Martínez upon his return to first-team action.

With the 30-year-old having two years left on his current deal at Old Trafford, the hierarchy desperately need to offload the defender in the distant future.

His decline over recent years is there for all to see, with the manager desperately needing to replicate a deal for Onana and allow him to move on if he’s to have any chance of keeping his job.

It’s been yet another poor start to a Premier League season for Manchester United.
