Charlton: Naby Sarr showed why he shouldn’t have started against Millwall

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Charlton failed to put an end to their miserable record against south London rivals Millwall on Saturday, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat at The Den – the Addicks will have to wait even longer to put an end to their 23-year winless streak against the Lions.

Gary Rowett’s side took an early lead in the sixth minute after Shaun Hutchinson headed home, before Matt Smith scored a stoppage-time winner to leave Charlton heading back to The Valley with their tails tucked between their legs.

It was a disappointing performance from most players in red – however, one man was more culpable than others.

Before the match, we outlined how Naby Sarr should be dropped by Lee Bowyer for the south London derby, not because of his woeful 45-minute display against Preston, but because of his lack of aerial ability.

We detailed how – before the Millwall clash – Sarr had only won 1.8 aerial duels per game on average in the Championship, an inferior amount to his fellow centre-backs Jason Pearce and Tom Lockyer.

It was also mentioned how Millwall striker Matt Smith – a 6 foot 5 powerhouse – wins a huge amount of aerial battles, and could therefore dominate Sarr.

As we speak now, that preconception rang true at The Den.

Despite contributing the assist for Jonathan Leko’s goal, the 26-year-old defender was at fault for both Millwall goals after, believe it or not, being beaten in the air.

He allowed Hutchinson to get ahead of him for the first strike, before allowing the previously identified Smith to swat him aside once again to score a 91st-minute winner.

The Senegalese centre-back also committed two fouls and failed to make a single block, on a day where his ineptitude in the air cost his side dearly.

There is no reason for him to be so poor in the air given his 6 foot 5 frame, and Sarr’s awful showing proved why he should have been dropped by Bowyer for the clash.

Wolves’ reported move for Franck Kessie seems move likely after recent tactics

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

It’s the saga that just won’t go away.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ pursuit of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie continues to be reported in the press, and this week Italian newspaper Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) claims the west Midlands club are above any other suitors ahead of the January transfer window.

What’s the word?

Reports in Italy suggest that AC Milan are keen on Manchester City outcast Nemanja Matic, but as a result, Kessie is more likely to be pushed closer to the exit door at the San Siro.

Tuttosport believes that Wolves are the front-runners to sign the 22-year-old given their great relationship with the Serie A club.

Patrick Cutrone made the switch this summer in a £16m deal, and his former teammate could follow suit in just a couple of months.

Milan value the Ivory Coast international between €30-35m (£25.75-30m) while Transfermarkt currently rate him at £27m.

Nuno’s tactical decisions opens the door

Before the start of this current campaign, a move for a central midfielder seemed rather unlikely – the club have Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Leander Dendoncker, Romain Saiss, and Morgan Gibbs-White as viable options.

But that has changed somewhat in recent weeks.

Willy Boly’s severe training ground injury has meant that Dendoncker has slid into defence, and he’s done a more than adequate job – in fact, it could well be his best position.

Meanwhile, Gibbs-White continues to battle injury problems of his own.

Watch Wolverhampton Wanderers Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

These factors combined make a move for Kessie not only seem more probable, but rather necessary as they now lack the depth in central midfield they began the season with.

In addition, BirminghamLive believe the club are chasing that exact position when the transfer window reopens.

Europa League qualification and their subsequent group stage action has seen the squad play more games than they would in a usual season, so strength in depth can only be beneficial going into the future.

As Nuno Santo’s men currently sit eighth in the Premier League and have one foot in the knockout rounds, there’s a very good chance this level of competition continues to take place at Molineux.

Kessie would bring some of that big stage pedigree having played 15 times in the Europa League while Milan fan pages have described him in the past as one of their only true box-to-box talents.

Mikel Arteta handed boost as Arsenal star closes in on return from injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been handed a much-needed boost as one of his star players closes in on a return from injury, according to a report.

Arsenal injury doubts ahead of crucial Liverpool match

This Sunday, the Premier League title-chasing Gunners take on fellow major contenders Liverpool in a blockbuster bout – which will surely go a long way in determining 2024/2025’s eventual champions.

Arteta wants £58m striker at Arsenal more than anyone, January bid likelier

The Spaniard is eager to recruit him.

Arne Slot’s Reds are in absolutely excellent form – winning seven of their opening eight league matches so far this season – while Arsenal were unbeaten before their 2-0 slump at Bournemouth last weekend, a match which also saw star defender William Saliba sent off.

As a result, the north Londoners will be without Saliba this weekend as they prepare to host Liverpool at the Emirates. That is a big blow for Arteta, who could also be without another centre-back in summer signing Riccardo Calafiori, after the Italy international was forced off during their Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night.

Takehiro Tomiyasu could be out for a few weeks, following a recurrence of his knee injury which had kept him out since pre-season, before he made his first and only appearance of the campaign against Southampton just prior to the international break.

Jurrien Timber is an Arsenal doubt to face Liverpool as well, so it looks as if Arteta could be very short defensively in the worst case scenario. Meanwhile, uncertainty also surrounds Bukayo Saka and his involvement against the Merseysiders, with the £195,000-per-week star missing their last two games after picking up a leg injury on international duty with England.

“We’re going to do our very best to somehow have them available but it’s very uncertain,” said Arteta on Saka, Timber and Calafiori ahead of Liverpool.

“He [Calafiori] needs some more tests. Yesterday he had some, today he’s going to have some more and after that we will know. Last time we thought it was really bad and he ended up playing two or three days after, so let’s see how it is.

“He [Saka] has done a bit of training on the grass. How far we can get him to Sunday, that’s a different question. We have another day, which is a good thing, but we’ll see.

“Timber, again, it’s the first session that he could have some involvement. He’s been out for a while, we expected him to be further back than where he is at the moment but, again, we have to wait and see.”

Another player who could be set to miss their crucial encounter tomorrow is captain Martin Odegaard, who’s been unavailable since he suffered ankle ligament damage in Norway’s 2-1 win over Austria in September.

Boost for Arsenal as Odegaard closes in on injury return

As per the Associated Press, via Daily Mail, it is believed Odegaard is “nearing a return” from his ankle injury in a boost for Arsenal, but Arteta has not said whether he will be fit in time for Liverpool.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder wasn’t able to play a part in many important fixtures – including away games at Tottenham and Man City – and Arsenal have done very well to cope without his presence.

Odegaard has bagged 23 goals and 17 assists for Arsenal in the Premier League alone since the beginning of 2022/2023, playing a key role in their very close races with Man City.

The former Real Madrid ace’s return is imperative, and while we have no exact date, this whisper he is close will come as some much-needed good news.

Carragher: Man Utd star Rasmus Hojlund now "starting to look like a player"

Jamie Carragher singled out one Manchester United individual for praise on Monday Night Football after his performance against Brentford at the weekend. The Red Devils got back to winning ways on Saturday, coming from behind to beat the Bees 2-1 in what was a strong second half display that will have pleased under pressure Erik ten Hag.

Man Utd wasted £109m on Solskjaer signing who earned more than Garnacho

He burned Manchester United of £109m during his time at Old Trafford.

ByMatt Dawson Oct 22, 2024 Man Utd eyeing new attackers for 2025

Away from the pitch, the Red Devils look like they could be in for a busy January as they continue to be linked with potential new arrivals. Last week United were linked with a surprise move for Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane as he continues talks with the German side over a new contract.

PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani’s agents have also reached out to Old Trafford as they eye a potential switch. The forward has been linked with a move to United before, and it seems that the French side are ready to let the player leave after he’s struggled to make an impact.

Meanwhile, Antony, who has struggled since the very first day at United, could now be set to end his miserable stay, as the Red Devils are willing to part ways and sell him for £40 million – a move that could open the door for one of Sane or Kolo Muani to arrive.

However, given that United signed Joshua Zirkzee during the summer and given Rasmus Hojlund has impressed in recent weeks, so much so that Jamie Carragher is singing his praises, then signing Kolo Muani may not be needed.

Jamie Carragher wowed by Hojlund vs Brentford

Jamie Carragher told Monday Night Football that he has been “really impressed” by Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish international has had to be patient this season, as he suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season that meant he missed the first few games of the campaign.

Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount

The 21-year-old, who is on a weekly wage of £85,000 at Old Trafford and has been described as a “monster” by now Reading manager Ruben Selles, returned from injury against Crystal Palace in September and has since scored two goals in six games in all competitions.

The Dane secured United’s 2-1 win on Saturday, and Carragher believes he is putting a “real shift in” at the top of the pitch and is now starting to “look like a player,” as he was left impressed by the young striker. Carragher said on Sky Sports: “Hojlund, I think he’s starting to look like a player. I was really impressed with him in Porto a couple of weeks ago; he put a real shift in.

"I’ve heard" – Loads of clubs tracking selfless £130k-p/w Aston Villa star

Aston Villa took on European heavyweights Bayern Munich on Wednesday night and came out on top, continuing this impressive rise under Unai Emery, a rise that is now seeing one of their key players looked at by teams across Europe, according to a new report.

100% ground duels: 9/10 Aston Villa star was as key as Duran & Martinez

Aston Villa managed to pull off a fantastic Champions League win by toppling Bayern Munich 1-0.

ByKelan Sarson Oct 3, 2024 Aston Villa latest updates

The 1-0 victory over Bayern continues what has been another impressive start to a season for the Midlands side. Emery has got his team competing on multiple fronts, but it appears he still wants more, as they eye potential new recruits for 2025. The Villans have already been linked with moves for Valencia’s Hugo Duro and Atletico Madrid’s Samuel Lino in recent days, as Emery looks to improve his forward line in the New Year.

Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney.

They are not the only players being watched by the Premier League side, as Villa had scouts in place on Tuesday night to watch Rav van den Berg and Hayden Hackney of Middlesbrough. But as Emery eyes potential new arrivals at the start of the New Year or next summer, the latest transfer update will come as a concern, as one of Villa’s important players is being linked with a move away.

Aston Villa's £130k-p/w star tracked by European clubs

According to Aston Villa’s former senior scout Mick Brown, Ollie Watkins is being closely watched by teams from across Europe. Brown was at Villa Park until 2021 and has continued to maintain close connections with the club, and he has now told Football Insider that Watkins’ ability has significantly improved, and he could now be ready for a bigger step into one of Europe’s super elite.

Brown told Football Insider: “I’ve heard there are plenty of top clubs interested in him. He’d definitely be able to make the step up. When I was at Villa, I was always on to the management about getting Ollie Watkins from Brentford.

At that time, he was one of the few players, and still is, that wants to run in behind. All the strikers want to come to feet now and lay it off to a midfielder and play from there. Sometimes you’ve got to play off the shoulder and run in behind.

If you drew up that profile, he’s your man. That’s what he does. It’s something different these days. The lad has improved his whole game since we signed him, and he scores goals.

Plus, he runs in behind, which is not just about him; it’s about the rest of the team. He gets the team up the park and inspires them. That type of player will always attract interest from top sides wherever they are. He’s a game-changer, and he’s shown that for Villa and for England.”

The 28-year-old, who was dubbed a “nightmare to play against” by Conor Coady, has been at Villa since 2020, when he joined from Brentford, and he has been an important figure for the Midlands side for a number of seasons. In the 2023/24 campaign, Watkins netted 27 goals in all competitions, and that earned him a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad. The forward is said to be on a weekly wage of £130,000, which could well be doubled if he were to get a big transfer.

Man Utd To "Reopen Talks" With "Powerful" £102m Machine

Manchester United have made just one summer signing so far during this transfer window, with Mason Mount arriving from Chelsea and with the Premier League campaign just a few weeks away, Erik ten Hag will need to act swiftly to improve his squad.

With reinforcements required across all areas of the first team, bolstering his attacking options seems to be at the forefront of the Dutchman’s mind and United have offered Atalanta a players-plus-cash deal for striker Rasmus Hojlund, however, the Serie A outfit are demanding a cash-only bid in a saga which threatens to rumble on for the next few weeks.

Could the Old Trafford side perhaps look at alternative options should a move for the Dane fail to materialise?

Man Utd transfer news – Goncalo Ramos back on the radar

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, the Red Devils could go back in for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos – speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said:

“Manchester United are looking for a new striker, at the moment there are two names on the shortlist, and one is Goncalo Ramos.

"After a few weeks of silence, the English club is ready to reopen talks with Benfica again. At the moment the position of the Portuguese team is quite adamant: the player has a release clause of €120 million (£102 million) and this value represents his price.

"However, Manchester United will try to figure out the room for negotiation to lower the price, even if at the moment there is not much confidence.”

Will Man Utd sign Goncalo Ramos?

The urgent requirement for a striker ahead of the 2023/24 campaign certainly suggests that a move could go through this summer, especially considering they scored only 58 Premier League goals last term.

Hojlund appears to be the main target, but Ramos could sparkle at Old Trafford if given the opportunity to shine under Ten Hag, and he could form a dream partnership with Marcus Rashford.

The Englishman was in the form of his life last season, having registered 41 goal contributions – 30 goals and 11 assists – across all competitions, and he ranks in the top 8% across Europe’s big five leagues for touches in the attacking penalty area per 90 (6.92), suggesting that he does get into scoring positions often.

The 25-year-old machine also ranked third across the United squad for league assists (five) and sixth for big chances created (five), indicating that Ramos would benefit from his ability to generate opportunities from the left wing.

Across the next big eight competitions on the continent, Ramos ranks in the top 1% for non-penalty goals per 90 (0.75) and in the top 7% for total shots per 90 (3.87). In contrast, his 27 goals last season demonstrate that he is certainly proficient in front of goal and Ten Hag needs an out-and-out striker with this sort of ability.

Rashford was either deployed on the left wing or as a centre-forward last term, yet it is clear his best position is out wide, having scored 16 of his goals from there during 2022/23.

With Ramos leading the line, it would take the pressure from the United gem that was clearly abundant during Ten Hag’s maiden campaign.

Benfica's Goncalo Ramos

Journalist Josh Bunting once lauded the young forward as “powerful” and as a “top prospect” last year and there is no doubt he is ready to make the step up to performing for a club such as United.

The next few weeks will be interesting regarding who Ten Hag manages to lure to Old Trafford, and Ramos may not only be an ideal alternative to Hojlund but a perfect partner for Rashford heading into the new campaign.

Postecoglou Makes Positive Impression on Spurs Players

Tottenham's players have "really enjoyed" their first week of training under new boss Ange Postecoglou, according to Sky Sports' Michael Bridge.

When did Tottenham players return?

It's all change at Hotspur Way training ground this summer, the most drastic of which being a new manager to help guide the players through this year's pre-season.

That manager is Postecoglou who made the move to north London following a successful trophy-laden period at Celtic in Scotland, and now the Australian has the difficult task of transforming a Spurs team who floundered last season.

He will have to get to work on the training ground as quickly as possible if he is going to shape this Tottenham team into a competitive one next season and he has already had a first glance at some of those he'll be working with.

July 1 was the players' first official day back at Hotspur Way, or at least those who were not extended a longer break due to international commitments.

Those who were on international duty will return between July 9 and July 12, and they will be evidently hearing positive words from their teammates about Postecoglou.

According to journalist Bridge, the Spurs players in training over the last week or so have "really enjoyed" their time under the new coach, creating a more harmonious atmosphere around the club than there has been previously.

Bridge told Sky Sports (via Football Daily): "So, Spurs returned to training not last Saturday but the Saturday before and the majority of players were players not on international duty, and a lot of the players returning from loan spells like Sergio Reguilon, Tanguy Ndombele, Djed Spence and a number of players maybe on the fringes of the first-team squad.

He added: "What I'm hearing out of the squad is they really enjoyed their first week under Postecoglou and the new refreshed coaching staff as well. So, it's been a good week for the players but of course it's still very, very early days.

"Postecoglou will be keeping a close eye on the players, but it is a big squad, Alex, and with no European football this season, he will have to trim that squad. A number of players will be moved on, but it's sort of starting again, a bit of a trial here as well.

"People keep telling me about Tanguy Ndombele, what about his future? Well, he's just won Serie A with Napoli. You know, is he a player that can be rejuvenated under Postecoglou?

"But what's key as well is that next week Spurs will fly out to Australia to face West Ham United. I think we'll get a better indication there who has got a future and who hasn't because I don't expect the whole squad to travel out, and I expect maybe a few to stay at Hotspur Way and in north London for the players there to maybe negotiate deals with other clubs."

Postecoglou has started well in earning the players' trust during pre-season and the manager will be able to evaluate his squad more completely when the rest of his players return.

After assessing his options, the former Celtic coach will have to make some quick decisions on the futures of some of his players, with a number of them expected to be moved on this summer.

Who are Tottenham signing?

While there is going to be a large proportion of outgoings this window, Spurs will still be eager to add to their squad in the remaining weeks of the summer too.

Having already signed James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario from Leicester and Empoli respectively, as well as permanently bringing Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro on board, Spurs have made a brilliant start to the window and are setting themselves up well to right the wrongs of last season.

Manor Solomon is expected to be announced as a Tottenham player imminently off the back of a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk and is another clever and cost-effective piece of business from the Lilywhites.

However, their next priority simply must be a centre-back, an area of the pitch which needs significant strengthening. Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven have been linked, with the former supposedly the club's number one target.

Tottenham Linked With Move For "Magical" £10k-p/w Premier League Star

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma, according to a recent report from The Daily Mail.

Are Tottenham signing a winger this summer?

Tottenham have now struck a deal to sign former Fulham loanee Manor Solomon on a five-year contract, having agreed personal terms with the Israel international, who was available on a free transfer after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk this summer.

Spurs have also completed the signing of Juventus' Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent deal, with the 23-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract, meaning Postecoglou has already strengthened considerably in wide areas in the current window.

As such, it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites are keen to bring in any additional wingers, however they have now been linked with a move for Mitoma, who made a name for himself with his fantastic performances for Brighton in the 2022-23 campaign.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, the Japan international has caught the eye of a number of unnamed clubs, and Postecoglou is said to be an admirer, in light of the three years he spent managing in the J-League.

At the moment, there is no indication that Tottenham are set to make a move for the 26-year-old anytime soon, however he is liked by Postecoglou, which hints a move is not out of the question given the boss' success with Japanes signings at Celtic, where the likes of Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi were key to his high-intensity style.

Where would Kaoru Mitoma play for Spurs?

The Brighton star has most commonly been utilised as a left-winger throughout his career so far, however he has also demonstrated an aptitude for playing on the right on occasion, scoring four goals in the six games he's played in that area.

Last season, the Kawasaki-born ace managed to make an instant impact in the Premier League, recording seven goals and six assists in 33 top-flight appearances, while he also impressed during Brighton's run to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma

After his match-winning performance against Liverpool, getting on the scoresheet with a 92nd-minute goal to seal a 2-1 victory, the £10k-per-week winger was lauded as "magical" by GiveMeSport's Terry Flewers.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has also spoken highly of the former Kawasaki Frontale man, claiming that he has "big potential".

With Solomon and Kulusevski set to be at Postecoglou's disposal next season, the manager probably does not need to bring in any more signings in wide areas, but Mitoma should definitely be placed on the shortlist for a potential deal in the future.

Arsenal Star Could Find Himself "On The Market"

Arsenal will be going into "selling mode" over the next few weeks, and Kieran Tierney is a player that could find himself "on the market" should he not have "a clear pathway" into the team, claims journalist Ben Jacobs.

Arsenal transfer news – what's the latest on Kieran Tierney?

It has been an unbelievable start to the summer window for the Gunners this year, with one major signing already confirmed in Kai Havertz, who joined the club from cross-city rivals Chelsea for £65m.

On top of that, the North London side appears to have finally made the breakthrough in the Declan Rice saga for a cool £105m, and if that wasn't enough, talks to sign Jurrien Timber of Ajax look to be entering "the final stages", per Fabrizio Romano.

With all of those incomings, it is perhaps no surprise that the club are now looking to move some of their own players on, with Tierney potentially one of them, per Jacobs.

The 26-year-old Scot was the club's number one left-back until last season when Mikel Arteta welcomed his former player Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Emirates, who has since become the undisputed starter on the left side of the defence.

Newcastle United have been linked with the player for much of the past season, but in a sensational turn of events, his former club Celtic could now sign the dynamic fullback.

According to the Sun, Tierney would consider a move back to Celtic Park should the club come after him, partly thanks to the return of Brendan Rodgers, with whom the player shared tremendous success.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Kieran Tierney and Arsenal?

Jacobs made it clear that the Gunners will be looking to offload a few players following their extravagant spending of late, with Tierney being someone who could find himself on the chopping block over the next few weeks.

Speaking to Football FanCast, he said: "I think we're gonna see Arsenal going into selling mode resolving the future of players. Kieran Tierney is another one that will either need a clear pathway or will become available on the market."

How good was Kieran Tierney for Arsenal?

It has been a very stop-start time for the ex-Celtic star in North London, with multiple bouts on the sidelines with injuries, only to be effectively replaced in the one season he managed to stay fit for the club.

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.

Speaking to Sport Bible about just one of the many periods he has missed through injuries, he described it as "the toughest time of my life."

However, when he was fit, he was frequently one of the few bright sparks in a period in which the Gunners struggled on the pitch.

According to WhoScored, before this last season, the flying Scotsman never achieved an average rating lower than 6.64 in his three seasons at Arsenal, which is remarkably consistent for a player that has had so many interruptions in his career already.

He has also been exceptional for his national side over the last few seasons, filling in as a centre-half with Andrew Robertson holding down the left-back position.

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.

So good have his performances been with the Scotland manager Steve Clarke describing him as "the best left-sided centre-back that Scotland had ever had."

If Tierney, who has been hailed as "magnificent", can maintain his fitness from now on, whichever team he joins will have an exceptionally gifted player on their hands.

Tottenham: Spurs Gifted Discount On "World Class" Defender

Tottenham Hotspur are also eyeing a move for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer amid their reported talks for other centre-backs, according to news out of Italy.

Who will join Spurs this summer?

Spurs have already sealed deals for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who joins from Empoli for £17.4 million, and England international playmaker James Maddison in a £40 million move from Leicester.

Ange Postecoglou will be thrilled by the start his new side have made, but with months of the transfer window remaining, the Lilywhites must not rest on their laurels and keep pursuing quality.

Reports suggest that Spurs are looking at signing a central defender as well this summer, coming after a 22/23 which saw Tottenham concede more league goals than any other side above 15th in the table.

Going by the numbers, Spurs have a glaring achilles heel which needs to be resolved, leading to rumoured transfer talks for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg star Micky van de Ven.

Fellow names on Tottenham's reported shortlist of defender targets include Palace's Marc Guehi, Wolves' Max Kilman, Manchester City treble-winner Aymeric Laporte, Roma's Roger Ibanez and Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

gleison-bremer-premier-league-newcastle-transfers

According to Corriere dellon Sport, via Sport Witness, another centre-back attracting Tottenham's interest is Bremer – just a year after he joined Juventus from Torino.

Spurs, alongside Newcastle United and Aston Villa, are named as the clubs targeting him this summer with this report relaying his price appears to have dropped from €80 million (£69m) to €50 million (£43m).

However, bizzarely, the discounted price tag still "seems to scare" Levy and co – so if Tottenham want to do a deal – they may need to put this aside or negotiate an even lower fee.

What's been said about Gleison Bremer?

As per WhoScored, the Brazilian marked himself out as one of Juve's best-performers per 90 last season, with Massimiliano Allegri handing him 30 league starts as an undroppable.

In that time, he averaged an impressive 90.2% passing accuracy out from the back and made more clearances per 90 than any other Juve player (WhoScored).

Bremer would be a solid option for Spurs, with CBS commentator Matteo Bonetti calling him "shockingly good" and "world class" during the player's Torino days.

"Bremer was *shockingly* good at Torino," said Bonetti on Twitter.

"Obviously not on the radar of many casuals because the team didn't draw many viewers, but my goodness, some of the games he had against the top strikers in the league… Genuinely looks world class."
