Manchester United: Some fans wish Victor Lindelof would leave and join Jose Mourinho’s next team

Manchester United go into the international break sitting in seventh place, nine points off Manchester City in fourth. and it proves they’ve hardly moved forward since they sacked Jose Mourinho last December. This time last year they sat in eighth, but were seven points behind the top four.

Victor Lindelof was signed by Jose Mourinho and has taken to the media to praise him this week, saying to Aftonbladet (via Metro): “He is one of the world’s best coaches and he is supposed to have a job at one of the biggest clubs. I miss him in football. He’s a great coach and a great person, whom I owe a great deal. It was he who gave me the chance here.”

The centre-back has been a mainstay in the United’s line-up so far this season, starting 11 games in the league. However, even with Harry Maguire in the side, they’ve managed just two clean sheets so far this season. Fans saw Lindelof’s comments when United news aggregator Utd Xtra posted them on their Twitter account, and the reaction wasn’t all positive. Some fans clearly believe the 25-year-old isn’t good enough for their club and that his comments on Mourinho aren’t accurate.

Tottenham Hotspur fans react to Zlatan Ibrahimovic potentially joining the club

Everyone is probably eager to see what kind of changes does Jose Mourinho implement now that he has taken charge of Tottenham Hotspur, following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Special One will definitely have to work his magic to get Spurs out of the gutters and the 14th place they found themselves in.

And according to some new reports coming from The Telegraph, it seems that Mourinho is considering bringing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the club after the great Swede finished his MLS adventure across the pond.

Of course, the two have already worked together at Manchester United and scooping a proven goal-scorer for free could actually help the team moving forward.

But many of the Spurs fans would not agree with that.

Upon seeing this update, they were quick to voice their opinions on the matter and it seems they are not happy with it at all.

Some feel it would not end well while others think Ibrahimovic is not needed since they have Karry Kane.

Liverpool: Fans loved the banter between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson

Liverpool fans loved a social media post that was made by Andy Robertson about his fullback counterpart Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The duo have formed a strong bond within Jurgen Klopp’s side since their respective introductions into the team, with the Scotsman joining in 2017 for £8m from Hull City and the Englishman coming through the ranks at Melwood.

Both players were in active competition with each other last season to score the most assists in the Premier League last season and were always making comments to each other in the media about their personal goals within the side.

Alexander-Arnold had the last laugh during the 2018/19 campaign with 12 assists, both players combined 23 assists which were unprecedented levels for defenders in terms of creating goals.

Their relationship shows how close they are on and off the pitch after what Robertson said on Twitter.

Supporters loved the post from Robertson and made their feeling clear about it on social media.

Here you will find some of the best comments from Liverpool fans:

Forget Arsenal and Chelsea: The real rivalry for Spurs is with Leicester

With Jose Mourinho now installed at Tottenham Hotspur – though it still feels odd to acknowledge that – we can expect to see a number of his renowned characteristics in evidence sooner rather than later.

Chief among these of course is his oscillating moods that are entirely defined by results and it’s for this reason more than any other why Mourinho is so often called ‘box-office’.

Then there is his propensity to dish out barbed comments, usually in pressers and usually with a target in mind and very much connected to this is another well-known trait, one that is especially pertinent here because no other manager in modern times has recognised – and so willingly embraced – the infinite power in creating a rivalry quite like the Portuguese coach.

In the past such self-created foes have taken the form of individuals – such as Arsene Wenger – for personal sport while to motivate his players rival clubs have been pinpointed to be their anathema. During his first stint at Chelsea that was Liverpool and you would be mistaken if you believe that the fierce rivalry occurred organically via some high-profile clashes. In fact it had Jose’s mucky fingerprints all over it. In La Liga, Barcelona was held up to be Real Madrid’s bete noire; a darling of the authorities no less.

With a coaching style and personality that thrives off tension, he is a Moriarty forever in need of a Holmes, and now that Jose is wearing Spurs pyjamas to bed, the question is who he will dream of the most.

Will it be Arsenal, the obvious choice given their historic enmity, locality, and similar stature? Or might it be Chelsea, Mourinho’s old haunt and fellow London giant? Both certainly tick every box. Each would have him grinding his teeth in slumber.

Perhaps. But there is an outsider worth considering here and that is Leicester City.

Already the groundwork has been laid, what with the two clubs battling it out for the league title in 2016. Then, as the dramatic finale reached its conclusion Spurs supporters grew increasingly exasperated and resentful of the media’s favouritism towards their opponent’s ‘fairy tale’ narrative.

Indeed, from a Leicester perspective – as this forum illustrates – they were later surprised to discover just how deep the loathing went.

As for the present day it is Leicester who could be said to have taken Tottenham’s chair at the top six table, currently lying second as Mourinho’s side languish. And if this were not galling enough it can be viewed that the Foxes have also stolen a march in the PR battleground too with their thrilling, open football making them the neutral’s sweethearts, a title that Spurs used to boast under Pochettino.

In fact, it almost feels like Leicester have taken on Tottenham’s identity of late with a progressive coach in Brendan Rodgers Poch-ing his way to a top four finish with shrewdly bought personnel.

Mourinho won’t like that one bit. He will bristle at the constant plaudits. He will want to be where they are.

On the penultimate weekend of the season, Tottenham host their new alter-egos and if all goes to plan under fresh management it’s not unreasonable to think that much will be at stake.

No matter what the result expect the formerly special one to have a barbed comment prepared, just in case.

This is a rivalry to watch develop.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to Mamadou Sakho comments

Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to comments made by defender Mamadou Sakho which were recently posted on Twitter.

Speaking to Stadium Mag, he spoke about his career at Palace and his future and said: “You can never predict anything in a career, but today, I’m happy and settled at Crystal Palace where I have a year and a half left on my contract.”

This sounds positive from the Frenchman, who has been a fan favourite since his £25.38 million move from Liverpool in August 2017, via Transfermarkt.

Since then the 30-year-old has featured 80 times and whilst only managing to score the one goal, it was a crucial late winner in the 92nd minute against Stoke back in November 2017 which moved them only three points away from safety as the South London side sat bottom of the Premier League, via BBC Sport.

The only problem with the centre-back is that this campaign he has only managed to feature eight times due to various injuries and one suspension, via Transfermarkt. It might be hard for him to get back into the squad when football resumes as current pairing Scott Dann and Gary Cahill have kept three clean sheets in their last three games which have seen the Eagles pick up nine points, via Crystal Palace.

Celtic: Fans react to great video of club victory in 2003

Celtic have posted highlights from April 2003 which show the clubs victory over Old Firm rivals Rangers, and features a sweet strike from John Hartson.

The match played at Ibrox has been famously dubbed ‘Beachball Sunday’ due to the large amount of beachballs Hoops fans chucked onto the pitch.

The Celts won the game thanks to a penalty from Alan Thompson and a John Hartson strike before half-time, via BBC Sport. Rangers did manage to pull one back through Ronald de Boer, but it was not enough. However the Bhoys were more focused on the UEFA Cup as they had just secured a place in the final days before the derby.

Fans mocked Rangers by singing, “You’ll be watching The Bill while we’re in Seville!”, via thecelticwiki. To then get the three points capped off an amazing week in Celtic history.

The Hoops have had a lot to brag about as of late, as they look to win their ninth title in a row. They are currently in first place and 13 points ahead of their rivals, via BBC Sport.

Many fans loved these highlights and gave massive praise to Henrik Larsson for his contributions in the match.

Phil Hay makes claim on Leeds finishing season

Leeds United may not be able to complete the Championship season despite their desire to get it back underway. The Athletic’s Phil Hay has provided a fresh claim on the latest situation. He claims that it’s very much “up in the air” with many teams believing it won’t be possible to resume the current campaign. He also sheds light into the question marks surrounding promotion and suggests that all sensible points-per-game standings have the west Yorkshiremen going up via one of the two automatic spots.Hay tweeted:

Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently top the table with a seven-point advantage to the playoff positions and given there are only nine games remaining, it’s fair to suggest that they would normally only have themselves standing in the way of a Premier League place.

Plenty of fans at Elland Road have waited 16 years for top-flight football, so deny them that after an impressive campaign would ultimately be unjust.

A true test for any Leeds fan: Can you match these iconic images with the right results?

But only time will tell on the Championship’s immediate future.

Manchester United: Fans gush over Marcus Rashford after he calls for Boris Johnston to reverse school meal vouchers decision

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has called for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to reverse a decision to cancel free school meal vouchers during the summer.

The government announced that the scheme will not continue into the school holidays, which has drawn criticism from campaigners who are prepared to launch legal action.

It’s not everyday that a footballer decides to share their thoughts on important social topics, and Rashford drew upon his own experiences of relying on school meals and food banks growing up to urge the government to change their minds.

The 22-year-old posted an emotional open letter to all MPs on social media, which has received thousands of likes and retweets so far.

Former Red Devils forward Louis Saha replied to Rashford’s message, calling the youngster “an inspiration.”

The England international, who is Manchester United’s top goalscorer this season, has raised £20m to distribute three million meals to vulnerable people during the coronavirus pandemic. He is making the most of his platform to help those who need it the most throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

Unsurprisingly, loads of United fans gushed over Rashford’s “superb” tweet, with one supporter dubbing him “class” and another adding that he is “incredible.”

Tottenham Hotspur: Pochettino favourite set to complete season before leaving Spurs on free transfer

According to The Evening Standard, Jan Vertonghen is set to finish the season with Tottenham before leaving the club as a free agent.

Vertonghen’s contract runs out in June but Spurs have offered him an extension to cover the remaining nine matches.

Last month the Premier League announced clubs can negotiate short-term extensions for players whose deals are due to expire on 30 June.

Football correspondent Dan Kilpatrick revealed the Belgian intends to remain loyal to the Lilywhites as he will be unable to play for another club until next season at the earliest.

Moreover, the veteran is well aware that it is unlikely he will play every game, which has put his injury fears at ease.

However, Jose Mourinho has ended discussions with Vertonghen’s representatives, and the board have ruled out offering him a long-term deal.

Although the defender was a favourite of former boss Mauricio Pochettino, he has fallen out of favour with the Argentine’s successor, and it appears his eight-year-spell in north London is finally coming to an end.

The 33-year-old is reportedly considering his options, as he has received an offer from Real Betis, and Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is keen to bring him to the San Siro Stadium.

Vertonghen has previously said he would like to end his career at his boyhood club Ajax, but he is now weighing up a move to Italy.

While he is below the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga in the pecking order, his presence in the dressing room may be a decisive factor as Spurs look to seal a spot in the top four, as he could provide advice to some of his younger teammates.

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson had a nightmare display against Man City

So after being given the guard of honour by Manchester City prior to kick-off, Liverpool’s Thursday evening went downhill from there, falling to a disappointing 4-0 defeat to the former Premier League champions.

Of course, the title had been sewn up following Chelsea’s victory over Pep Guardiola’s side, and the Reds will be forgiven for not being at the races after all the undoubted celebrations.

Whilst City were at their efficient best – they scored four times from their six shots on target – Liverpool simply couldn’t get to grips with the home side’s pace and creativity.

Can you spot your Xabi Alonso from your Bruno Cheyrou? This Liverpool quiz will have you questioning your knowledge…

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

And one man who had a particularly forgettable night, was Andy Robertson.

The Scotland international has been among the stand-out performers once again for the Reds this season, racking up eight assists from left-back in the Premier League alone.

But against City, the 26-year-old looked all at sea trying to tie down Phil Foden, and on more than one occasion, let his aggression and intense pressing cloud his judgment.

Foden’s goal highlighted that clearly, with Robertson sucked in as the City winger dropped deep to play a one-two, before spinning past the defender and firing home past Alisson.

In fact, speaking during commentary for Sky Sports, Gary Neville suggested that Robertson looked like a player who had partied too much, and judging by just how out-of-sorts he looked, it wasn’t the most unfair of comments to make.

As per Sofascore, he lost seven of his ten total duels on the night, a real surprise given that he averages 1.6 tackles per game and a 50% success rate when it comes to duels in the Premier League.

He was also dribbled past twice, provided no key passes, completed just one of his five attempted crosses, and lost possession 15 times – the second-most of any Liverpool player.

It was the kind of rash and reckless performance that would surely have driven Klopp crazy on the side-lines, and so whilst some of the post-match attention may fall on Joe Gomez who gave away the penalty for the opening goal, Robertson did himself no favours either.
