Leeds fans bash club recruitment after Halme injury update

Leeds fans have been reacting to the news that January signing Aapo Halme has returned from a foot injury, and it doesn’t seem like the signing was a very memorable one.

Aapo Halme, a 19 year-old Finnish centre-back, signed for Leeds in January for a fee in the region of £500,000.

The young defender was set to join Carlos Corberan’s Under 23 side with a view to join the senior side later on, but has been hampered by a foot injury he picked up in January.

Halme has been unable to even train since joining, which could severely hamper his chances of first team football next season. He has now returned to training.

Needless to say, Leeds fans are not particularly happy with Victor Orta’s recruitment strategy, as a remarkable amount of his signings seem injury prone.

Yosuke Ideguchi was another player signed in January with long-term plans, but the Japanese international has played just five times for his loan club Cultural Leonesa in the second tier of Spanish football.

Most fans are using the injury update to bash the club’s recruitment strategy, while others are just struggling to remember who Halme actually is.

RB Leipzig’s Forsberg could be Arsenal’s Walcott upgrade in the summer

Arsenal embarked on something of a mini clearout in January and one man to leave the Emirates Stadium in a mid-season window that was comparatively busy by the standards of a top six side was Theo Walcott.

The England international joined Everton, at the end of a prolonged period in north London which was epitomised by Walcott’s inability to really kick on and improve on his weaknesses.

That malaise was symptomatic of an Arsenal side who exhibited the same old failings year in, year out and in the end, it was best for both sides for a change to be made.

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners need a reliable creator from out wide, someone who can be an upgrade on both Walcott and Alex Iwobi, and one man who could well provide that is Red Bull Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg, who is valued at £22.5million by Transfermarkt.

We’ve taken a look at the numbers behind the Swede’s performance in the 1-0 Europa League quarter-final win over Marseille to examine his suitability for a wide role at the Emirates Stadium.

With one assist and four key passes, it’s clear that the right-sided midfielder could produce end product for Arsene Wenger’s team and 11 crosses are further evidence of a man who is not afraid to keep trying to make things happen.

With four dribbles and five tackles, he covers round well, in keeping with Leipzig’s high-energy game-plan, and he could add some much needed zip to Arsenal’s attacking play.

Arsenal fans would love Allegri to replace Wenger

It seems that in the last few seasons, Arsenal news has been dominated by questions over Arsene Wenger’s future as manager.

The stalwart has been in charge of the North London outfit for the past two decades, but in recent years has struggled to maintain a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

In fact, the club failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in Wenger’s reign in the 2016-17 campaign, and history looks to repeat itself as the Gunners are 13 points off the pace with six games left to play.

A large number of Arsenal fans remain keen on the Frenchman leaving at the end of the season, despite him signing a fresh two-year deal last summer.

Numerous names have been linked to the role, but it seems that Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is a favourite among the fans.

Following the Italian giants’ cruel and dramatic Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, football.london journalist Charles Watts suggested that he wanted Allegri to take over at the Emirates.

Arsenal fans agreed.

The Gunners would face competition, though, as the Daily Star recently reported that Chelsea are expected to appoint Allegri as Antonio Conte’s replacement this summer.

Arsenal fans split on possible move for free agent Max Meyer

Arsenal have a busy summer ahead as they look for a new manager, as well as attempt to strengthen the squad.

It is clear that the Gunners require a handful of new additions, including a goalkeeper, defender and defensive midfielder.

Numerous targets have been mentioned in the media, and now attention has turned to Schalke midfielder Max Meyer.

On Thursday, the club confirmed that the 22-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season after failing to agree fresh terms with the German outfit.

Meyer predominantly plays centrally in the middle of the park, but has at times dropped back to protect the defence, and has also been positioned in an attacking position.

In the last few days, Arsenal supporters have been focusing on the huge news regarding Arsene Wenger’s resignation, and now attention has turned to potential new arrivals.

Manchester United boss Mourinho hints at move for Brazilian; could it be Fred?

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted in interview with ESPN Brazil that every team needs a Brazilian player.

What’s the word?

The Red Devils will be in the market this summer for a handful of players as they try to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.

While speaking to ESPN Brazil, the Portuguese coach spoke of the importance of having a Brazilian in any football team.

One man that is unlikely to be arriving at Old Trafford this summer is Chelsea star Willian.

The 29-year-old winger played under Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, but the United boss does not think that the Blues will sanction a transfer due to Nemanja Matic’s switch last summer.

“I think that a team without a Brazilian isn’t a team, but also, a squad with three or four Brazilian athletes, depending on their profile, cannot make a great team too. I’m kidding! Who knows we can have a Brazilian in the squad next year. I don’t believe it will be Willian, because Chelsea won’t make it possible.”

Could it be Fred?

One area that United are likely to be looking at this summer is midfield due to impending departures.

Michael Carrick will leave at the end of the season, while Marouane Fellaini is likely to be heading towards the exit gate.

A lot has been made of Paul Pogba’s form this season, but there is a certain Brazilian who could potentially help the £89m thrive.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred has caught the eye due to his performances in the middle of the park.

The 25-year-old – valued at £17.1m by Transfermarkt – has made 34 appearances in all competitions.

The Brazilian predominantly plays as a central midfielder, but can also position himself further forward and has contributed with four goals and six assists.

Everton, Tottenham locked in battle for Fernando

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are locked in a battle with Chelsea for the signature of Spartak Moscow midfielder Fernando.

What’s the story?

Both Tottenham and Everton are expected to be in the market for at least one new central midfielder this summer, whilst that is also an area of the field where Chelsea will look to strengthen.

According to The Sun, all three Premier League clubs are competing for the signature of Brazilian midfielder Fernando, who has been tipped to leave Spartak Moscow this summer.

The 26-year-old is rated by transfermarkt.co.uk at £6.3m, but it is understood that Spartak Moscow would demand £22m for the 26-year-old in this summer’s transfer window.

Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are also said to be considering an approach at the end of the season, but it is thought that Fernando, who has a contract in Russia until the end of the 2020-21 campaign, prefers a move to the Premier League.

What would Fernando bring to the Premier League?

Fernando joined Spartak Moscow from Sampdoria in the summer of 2016, and he made 30 appearances during an impressive first season in Russian football.

This term, the Brazilian has scored six times and registered four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Fernando is widely known as a defensive midfielder, but he has brought a goal threat to Spartak Moscow this season, and there is no question that he has the physical attributes to operate in the Premier League.

Tottenham and Everton face a battle to convince the midfielder to make the move to England, and it will be very interesting to see what occurs in this summer’s transfer window.

Everton supporters want their club to move for Roma’s Radja Nainggolan this summer, but that does seem to be an unrealistic signing.

When considering that Fernando will not exactly break the bank, he could turn out to be a very smart arrival for one lucky club.

Manchester United fans discuss where season went wrong

The pressure was on Manchester United to give Manchester City and Chelsea a run for their money this season.Jose Mourinho was in his second year in charge of the North-West outfit, and even though he benefited from his former club Chelsea slipping up in the title race, he could not rely on City to do the same.In fact, Pep Guardiola’s side stormed to the title and on the final day of the season they became the first ever Premier League club to claim 100 points in a campaign.United finished second in the table, but they were a mammoth 19 points adrift of their neighbours come the final whistle.[ad_pod ]Despite another title bid falling by the wayside, Mourinho’s men have the chance to scoop silverware as they prepare to take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final on May 19.Expectations are high at Old Trafford, though, so even if they do claim their 13th FA Cup, fans will be remain disappointed by the lack of staying power in the title race.On Twitter, the supporters chose moments when they believed that the league campaign went downhill.

Manchester City fans list ideal summer signings

Manchester City fans will feel fairly relaxed heading into the new season given how much they dominated the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s side eased to the title, leaving the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in their wake.

Even though City have had big success, pressure will be on for them to repeat their glory in the top flight and also improve in the Champions League.

The blue half of Manchester made it to the quarter-finals of the competition, but were beaten 5-1 on aggregate by Liverpool, who have gone on to reach the final in Kiev.

Of course, City will be in the market for some fresh faces this summer, and with the funds that the club have at their disposal, the sky is the limit.

Guardiola could do with bringing in some new wingers to challenge Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, while another midfielder would also not go amiss.

On Reddit, City fans have been discussing the current squad and who should be recruited in the transfer market.

Revealed: 87% of Newcastle fans back DeAndre Yedlin over reported move for Ryan Fredericks

Newcastle United fans don’t appear keen on right-back Ryan Fredericks, despite being linked with a move for him earlier this week.

The Chronicle reported that the Magpies were looking closely at the Fulham right-back, with his contract at Craven Cottage set to expire this summer.

In the days since it has looked increasingly like he well end up joining West Ham United, as reported by The Independent on Friday.

Still, he could have been a viable option for Rafa Benitez, who is looking to add depth to his squad in an attempt in improve on this season’s 10th placed finish in the English Premier League.

Newcastle fans would much prefer DeAndre Yedlin continue as first choice at St James’ Park though, despite Fredericks’ impressive season in the Championship.

A massive 87% of respondents to a poll we published earlier this week believe Yedlin is a better option on the right hand side of the Newcastle defence.

Tottenham fans react to Bergwijn reports

According to De Telegraaf, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in PSV Eindhoven attacker Steven Bergwijn this summer, and are prepared to battle Arsenal for his signature.

The 20-year-old scored eight times and registered 11 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for PSV during the 2017-18 campaign.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for the attacker, but Tottenham are also believed to be in the hunt ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Valued at £7.2m by transfermarkt.co.uk, it is unlikely that Spurs would have to break the bank for a player who has scored three times in eight appearances for Netherlands Under-21s.

That said, PSV are certainly well within their rights to ask for big money for Bergwijn, especially considering that the youngster has a contract until 2021.
