Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes would outshine Pogba at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s patience with Paul Pogba and his patience with the club could be about to run out in the summer. Still, nobody is bigger than Manchester United, and Bruno Fernandes would prove what the Red Devils been missing this season.

Obviously, it’s going to take more than just one player to turn their fortunes around, but the 24-year-old would be the man to build a team around and not Pogba, whose attitude on and off the pitch has been appalling.

Frankly, it’s time for a change.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder is rated at £31.5m on Transfermarkt, but expect there to be a bidding war for him this summer. United should go all out for him, because if they get their man, he can signal the start of the rebuilding job Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has on his hands.

Abola via the Metro have linked United with the player, and it’s no wonder that Ed Woodward has earmarked him as part of their summer plans. His 19 goals and 13 assists from 30 league appearances is staggering and embarrasses United’s current crop.

Splashing the cash on Fernandes would make a big statement to the league. It shows that, despite them playing Europa League football next season, they can still attract Europe’s best talents. It’d warn the rest of the top six that United are coming back.

It’s key Solskjaer spends his money on the right players this summer. Fernandes would be world-class signing that would provide goals, work-rate and vision to this next generation squad United hope to build.

Liking it! Crystal Palace fans are happy with the new home shirt

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after the new home shirt for the 2019/20 season was revealed against Bournemouth.

The Eagles usually announce their new strips at the annual awards ceremony, but instead opted to wait until the final game of the season to don their latest design; it’s safe to say that the supporters are happy with it!

There’s some exciting changes happening at Crystal Palace next summer. Find out what in the video below…

Mainly, some fans seem happy that the home shirt no longer has yellow trim on the shirt and shorts, which has been replaced with a white trim instead.

The socks also have an eye-catching red hoop around it, whilst the shirt has some aesthetically pleasing white lines down the front to outline the red and blue stripes.

It certainly seemed to do the trick for Roy Hodgson’s men, as they raced into a 3-1 lead before half-time against the Cherries, before eventually running out 5-3 winners.

Let’s see what they Palace supporters have been saying about the news on Twitter…

Image: Pablo Hernandez’s post match reaction shows how much this season meant to Leeds

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United have failed in their bid to return to the Premier League after being knocked out of the playoffs by Derby County on Wednesday night.

It seemed to be the Whites’ destiny to go up this season. Marcelo Bielsa had them playing some of the most attractive football the second division had ever seen, and they absolutely dominated the league table for the first few months of the campaign.

A late capitulation saw them miss out on a spot in the top two, and their poor performance at Elland Road midweek has seen their season end abruptly.

The loss to Derby meant heartbreak for supporters and players alike. There were many tears shed on the pitch after the final whistle, but nobody looked more crestfallen than Pablo Hernandez after a physically-draining campaign.

The Spaniard has been one of the longest-serving members of the United squad having joined in 2016 under the management of Garry Monk.

Hernandez has been arguably Leeds’ best player this season, netting 12 goals and providing 12 assists alongside picking up the club’s Player of the Year award.

In just three years the midfielder has become a cult hero at Elland Road, and it’s clear to see that he has a strong affinity with the club.

Aged 34, this may have represented Hernandez’s last real chance to be a part of a promotion-winning side at the Yorkshire club. His tears tell the full story as he looks dejected about the fact his team have once again failed to bring Premier League football back to Elland Road.

Arsenal fans react to James Benge’s update on Nicolas Pepe

[ad_pod ]

With just Europa League and Champions League finals left to contest, the world of football is beginning to turn it’s attention to the transfer season. Fewer fans will be casting as close an eye on proceedings as Arsenal’s, who are in need of reinforcements after a mixed season.

As is always the case, a few players will find themselves regularly linked with a move to the club and one of the constantly reported names is Nicolas Pepe from Lille.

The Ivorian has been a sensation for the French side this season, scoring 22 goals in the league, second to Mbappe’s 32, and registering 11 assists. It’s no wonder he’s one of the most sought after prospects in world football right now.

According to James Benge at football.london, Pepe is leaving the Ligue 1 runners up this summer and the Gunners have been keen to secure his services.

The news didn’t spark the excitement amongst Arsenal fans some might have expected, rather leaving them with little hope that a deal will be forced through…

Leeds United: Whites must steer clear of signing Michael Frey this summer

Having suffered an incredibly disappointing end to the 2018/19 campaign, Leeds United’s future suddenly looks very unclear.

With Marcelo Bielsa yet to commit to a new deal at Elland Road, it would not be at all surprising if the Whites end up having to recruit a new manager this summer.

However, when you consider that the Argentine is immensely popular amongst Leeds’ supporters, they will be hoping that chairman Andrea Radrizzani can offer the necessary incentives required to keep him at the club.

Yet regardless of who is in charge at Elland Road next season, in order to launch a sustained push for promotion the Whites must get their recruitment spot on over the coming months.

Although the club need to bring in a forward to challenge the likes of Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford, they should steer clear of signing Michael Frey when the transfer window opens in July.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the 24-year-old is reportedly on Leeds’ radar despite experiencing a difficult year with Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Having scored just three goals in 14 league appearances for the Istanbul-based side, it would be a huge risk for Leeds to take if they were to bring him in, especially when you consider that is extremely injury-prone.

During the last six months alone, the £2.25m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) has been sidelined on four different occasions with his inability to stay fit clearly hampering his development as a player.

Instead of wasting their money on Frey, the Whites should focus instead on targeting a marksman who has a track-record of firing in the goals in English football.

What do you think Leeds fans? Would signing Frey this summer be a mistake? Who do you want your side to sign in the transfer window? Let us know below.

Manchester United: Lo Celso would be very good for a certain Paul Pogba

An Argentina international. A PSG reject. And left-footed. After the painful memories of Angel Di Maria, Manchester United fans could be forgiven for not being entirely convinced with a move for Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso – but fear not. Amidst a report from MARCA that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are very interested in securing the midfielder’s signature, Old Trafford should truly embrace the potential arrival of another midfield maverick from South America.

Lo Celso has been in inspired form this season for Betis, registering 16 goals and 10 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. Aside from his added goal product, the 23-year-old has been at the heart of the La Liga side’s extraordinary short passing game, helping the team boast the second highest amount of average possession this season at 59.6%. The midfielder often carried his side, an option for his fellow teammates to pass to, and reassured everyone that he would be comfortable in even the tightest of situations.

Indeed, whilst the Argentine proved his dynamism going forward, averaging 1.9 dribbles and one key pass per game, it is going back towards his own goal that makes him stand out from the modern era of swashbuckling attacking midfielders.  The ex-PSG star averaged almost two tackles and one interception per match – significantly more than his potential teammate Paul Pogba, and a sign of embracing the off-the-ball demands. And so, it is when looking at Lo Celso’s greater defensive contributions that lead to why he could be a vital figure in the Red Devils’ engine room.

And perhaps an even bigger consequence and potential benefit of Lo Celso’s signing could be the impact it has on Pogba himself. At Juventus, the Frenchman flourished in a three-man midfield where he could maraud forward with his powerhouse runs, knowing full well that he had protection from his teammates behind him. But at United, the mercurial 26-year-old has often been left shackled, chained to his defensive responsibilities. Lo Celso’s arrival could unleash Pogba and truly set Old Trafford alight.

Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old may be the final piece in United’s midfield jigsaw. Pogba has been the main figurehead, and should undoubtedly be treated as such, but unfortunately for the likes of Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer, trying to fit everything around the cornerstone has proved troublesome. But with his qualities going forward and tracking back, Lo Celso could fit like a glove alongside Pogba.

So when United fans shrug their shoulders at the prospect of signing a player cast aside by PSG, perhaps they ought to remember that sometimes the best players are the ones with a point to prove. And after being deemed not good enough by the Parisien giants, boy does Lo Celso have one to prove.

United fans, would you back a move for Lo Celso? If not, why not? Join the discussion by commenting below…

So harsh: Tottenham fans think Lucas Moura should’ve started the CL final

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to drop Lucas Moura for the Champions League final, with the majority feeling that he should’ve started.

It was the Brazilian’s incredible 45-minute hat-trick against Ajax that got the north Londoners into the final in the first place, so it was extremely harsh of Pochettino to place him on the bench against Liverpool.

Should Spurs sell Kieran Trippier? Check out the for and against in the video below…

Admittedly, when a world class striker such as Harry Kane – the side’s talisman – declares himself fit for the biggest game in the club’s history, it makes it very, very tough for Pochettino to leave the No.10 out as well.

However, given the fact that the England international hadn’t played for almost two months before the game in Madrid, Lucas really should’ve started for a number of reasons.

Kane ultimately put in a terrible performance and did next to nothing on what was an easy night for Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip, and a number of Spurs fans on Twitter think Lucas deserved to start…

Need to move quickly: Man Utd see £40m bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka rejected

[ad_pod ]

According to the Telegraph, Manchester United have seen a £40m bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka rejected by Crystal Palace, who are desperate to keep hold of their 21-year-old sensation.

What’s the word, then?

The Red Devils are now said by the Guardian to be weighing up whether or not to make an improved offer for the England Under-21 star, who enjoyed a phenomenal 2018/19 campaign with the Eagles and won their Player of the Season award ahead of Wilfried Zaha.

Wan-Bissaka became a first-team regular last season after making his breakthrough in the 2017/18 campaign, and has since emerged as one of the most impressive right-backs in the Premier League.

Could Harry Maguire be on his way to Old Trafford? Check out the video below to see why it would make so much sense…

The Palace academy graduate would be an ideal solution to solving United’s issues at right-back, an area that looks extremely problematic following Ashley Young’s dismal 2018/19 campaign and Antonio Valencia’s departure.

United must move quickly

It has been reported by the Telegraph that Palace will not sell both Zaha and Wan-Bissaka this summer, their two prized assets.

But the south Londoners could be tempted by an offer in the region of £60m, as sources believes Palace will view that figure as too good to turn down for their local star.

Zaha, however, has a firm £80m price tag slapped on his head, a figure that will need to be met if the Ivory Coast international is going anywhere this summer – he has admitted that he would like to play Champions League football.

If another club manages to stump up the cash for Zaha and a deal gets done, there is next to no chance that Wan-Bissaka goes anywhere with three years left on his contract, so United really need to move fast on this one if they are to land their coveted right-back target.

£60m will surely look like a bargain in a few years given how quickly Wan-Bissaka has taken to life at the top level. And who knows, there could well be a double advantage to this if sorting a deal for the defender quickly stops one of Palace’s Premier League rivals from strengthening with a swoop for Zaha.

Transfer Focus: Danny Rose wouldn’t be Luke Shaw’s back-up at United

[ad_pod ]

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United might be “tempted” to revive their interest in Danny Rose after the Tottenham star’s admission that he could be leaving the north London side this summer.

What’s the word?

The report centres around the 28-year-old’s comments after England’s penalty shoot-out win over Switzerland in the Nations League, when he admitted he would just have to wait and see what happens over the next few weeks.

United’s interest in Rose has been long-standing, with a report by The Independent back in the summer of 2017 claiming that the England international was interested in making a move back up ‘north’.

A move for the defender even two years later still makes sense, particularly with Luke Shaw the only out-and-out left-back at the club and the future of versatile full-back Matteo Darmian uncertain.

Could Harry Maguire be on his way to Old Trafford? Check out the video below to see why it would make so much sense…

Experienced and proven quality

The jury has been out on how good a player Rose actually is, but bear in mind this is a defender who was the first-choice left-back of a Tottenham team that reached the Champions League final.

Whilst Shaw came good particularly in the second-half of the season, former boss Jose Mourinho’s public comments and constant jibes about his fitness and character are something for United to really consider in the long-term; can he be a consistent performer for the side? Are his injury problems well and truly behind him? Does he have the required attitude to make it to the top?

Rose on the other hand has proven year in and year out at Spurs that he can be regarded as one of the finest full-backs on his day, and often turns up for the big games on the big occasion.

When the north London side’s Champions League future was on the line at the Camp Nou, Rose enjoyed one of his finest games in a Tottenham shirt and but for some profligate finishing from his teammates, could have ended up with a couple of assists.

At 28, Rose is at the perfect age and the proverbial peak years of his career, and moving back to more comfortable surroundings up in Manchester might just see him step his game up another level; some of the world’s best players have struggled in environments away from home, and yet Rose has shown the professionalism and temperament to put that to one side and deliver impressive performances in London.

So whilst Shaw might have won United’s Players’ Player of the Year award, signing Rose as a back-up to the Englishman would present Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a huge selection dilemma, and it’s hard to envisage a world where Rose doesn’t win that battle.

West Ham fans should be seriously concerned about Llorente rumours

[ad_pod ]

According to reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee on Twitter, the club is ‘monitoring’ Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente who is expected to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month as things stand.

What’s the word, then?

The Spanish forward’s contract expires this summer and, despite Spurs reportedly having the option to sign him for another season extension, they appear to have decided to pass up that opportunity meaning he will be released on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old has spent two seasons with Mauricio Pochettino and has registered a record of 13 goals in 66 appearances for the north London club.

His contribution during the last few months of the 2018/19 season was pivotal in their Champions League run as he netted the winning goal in their Champions League quarter-final tie with Manchester City and played a part in Lucas Moura’s third goal against Ajax which sent them to Madrid.

A worrying signing for West Ham fans?

Andy Carroll was recently released at the London Stadium, while Javier Hernandez is also being touted with a move away.

So, the Hammers do suddenly seem in need of another striker to bolster their squad.

However, after the signing of Spanish playmaker Pablo Fornals last week, the link to a mid-30s target man way past the prime years of his career is a far less progressive move.

A big-name marquee striker making the move to east London immediately following the 23-year-old former Villareal man’s arrival would send a real message that West Ham mean business this season.

Instead, a transfer like Llorente would feel like another misstep from a club who have had a torrid record of signing forwards over the past decade or so – Ilan, Mido and Enner Valencia to name just three.

Whether the deal goes ahead is yet unknown, but it would be an extremely questionable one from a club notorious for abstract signings.
